The theme for the International Women’s Day (IWD) 2023 is: “Embrace Equity”. This implies that EVERYONE should get an equal chance at life’s opportunities without being denied by certain factors.

Can equity make a difference to your circumstances?
Could you even become an advocate for equity?
Equity refers to fairness and justice in the distribution of resources and opportunities, due to gender, religion, educational background, race, and social status. Unfortunately, women and young people have historically faced barriers to achieving equity, from educational institutions to the workplace, in politics and beyond.
By promoting gender equity, we can work to level the playing field and ensure that everyone has equal access to education, healthcare, and economic opportunities. We must also acknowledge and value both women’s and men’s contributions and experiences in all aspects of life.
AFFIRM’s forthcoming online event on Saturday 4th March 2023 is about “Ensuring equitable practices for women and youths in African societies”. The event will be moderated by Phebean Taiwo, and features two guest speakers:
Oluwatobiloba Udoh works with Iroko TV as a Customer Service Representative. He is also a Mental Health Advocate and Volunteer for the United Nations on Diplomacy.
Precious Ajimoti is studying to become a Physiotherapist. She is a talented Voice-over Artist, Founder of AboutDVoice and an On-Air Presenter.
The discussion will cover:
– key components of a truly equitable African society,
– roles of women and youths in advancing equity in their communities and workplaces,
– developing a more equitable and inclusive society for future generations of women and youths.
