Professor Festus Nwako Foundation
‘Valuing Lives, Achieving Dreams’
The Professor Festus Nwako Foundation is a social enterprise NGO that focuses primarily on engaging and empowering underprivileged children and youths in Nigeria using the Health, Education and Sports (HES) strategy.
History
The Professor Festus Nwako Foundation started in the year 2013 by the Founder himself. During his lifetime, Emeritus Professor Nwako practised Medicine and specialised in the field of Paediatric Surgery. In 1976, he led the team at UNTH Enugu that performed the first separation of conjoined twins in Africa.
Professor Festus Nwako was especially attuned to the needs of children and youths, the sick and the clergy. He was a teacher who advocated for the virtues of excellence and integrity in any task that one is involved in. Simply put, Professor Nwako valued lives and helped others to realise their dreams.
Emeritus Professor Festus Nwako was the pioneer Vice-Chancellor of the Nnamdi Azikiwe University, Awka in Anambra State of Nigeria.
In the last months of his life, Professor Nwako worked tirelessly to ensure that the Foundation was established and that his huge investment in people’s lives through medicine, health and well-being, sporting activities and teaching others, would carry on; so that many more beneficiaries will receive opportunities to excel in their fields of endeavour.
Although the activities were already being carried out, the Professor Festus Nwako Foundation was registered with Nigeria’s Corporate Affairs Commission in 2014.
